La Roche's Win-Streak Ends With Loss at #20 Juniata

HUNTINGDON, PA -- La Roche women's basketball's three game win-streak came to an end against one of the the nation's top teams. The Redhawks concluded the 2017 year at #20 Juniata College and fell 84-53. La Roche falls to 5-6 and Juniata improves to 9-0.

The Redhawks shot 34% from the field and hit 6 of 15 three-pointers. They were as good as you could be at the foul line, converting on all nine attempts.

Darrian Johnson led La Roche with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Jenna Cole added 12 points while Sidney Farmer had a season-high 10 points and 2 blocks. Shaundrea Butler had 2 steals.

La Roche was held scoreless over the first five minutes as Juniata ran out to an 11-0 lead. Jenna Cole ended the scoreless drought but Juniata added fourteen straight points and a 25-2 lead. The Redhawks scored 6 of the quarters' final 8 points but the Eagles carried a 27-8 lead into the first intermission.

The Redhawks settled down with a solid second quarter. They outscored Juniata 15-14 and shot 50% over the quarter's ten minutes. They also hit 3 of 5 three-pointers including two from Johnson.

The momentum La Roche carried into halftime swung in Juniata's direction to start the second half. The Eagles opened the third quarter on an 11-0 run and built their lead to thirty-three points. The Redhawks hit just two field goals in the quarter.

La Roche again outscored Juniata in the fourth quarter. Farmer went 2 for 2 from distance and the Redhawks hit 75% from three.

The Redhawks are off next week and will return to action on January 3 against Mt. Aloysius. The matchup will feature two of the AMCC's top teams. The Mounties come into the contest with a 4-0 conference mark and the Redhawks are right behind at 3-1.
