ALFRED, NY -- The La Roche women's basketball team played some of their best basketball of the young season cruising to an 82-54 win at Alfred University on Thursday night. The Redhawks, who never trailed in the contest, improve to 3-5 on the year.

Darrian Johnson led all scorers with 19 points and hit 4 of 6 shots from distance. Johnson is now averaging 16.6 points and has climbed into fourth in the AMCC in scoring.

Right behind Johnson was Jenna Cole who scored 18 points on 8 of 14 shooting. Cole is the AMCC leader in field goal percentage.

Dalesza Regan broke out with a 16 point performance and Shaundrea Butler dished out 7 assists. Shawn Brown-Kirby tallied 5 steals and Nia Thomas 7 rebounds.

The Redhawks hit 48% of their shots (30 for 63) and went 8 for 18 from distance. They shot a season high 78% (14 of 18) from the free throw line and forced 30 Alfred turnovers.

The opening ten minutes was the lowest scoring quarter for both sides. Despite the slow start, the Redhawks established their post game early. Cole converted layups on La Roche's first two possessions to open a 4-0 lead. Johnson and Boyd provided three-pointers in the quarter and Regan scored four points for a 16-9 La Roche lead after the first.

Johnson and Sidney Farmer opened the second quarter with threes to extend the Redhawk lead to thirteen. La Roche built their lead to as many as eighteen in the first half and entered intermission with a 40-24 advantage. Cole led the Redhawks with 10 first half points and the team shot 50% from both the field and three-point range.

Johnson continued to light it up with a pair of threes in the third quarter. The Redhawks cruised from there and earned the twenty-eight point win.

Every Redhawk saw game action and nine played at least sixteen minutes.

La Roche returns to AMCC competition on Saturday and will host Hilbert. Hilbert leads the AMCC with a perfect 3-0 conference record.
