Redhawks Hit Eleven Three-Pointers But Fall At Saint Vincent

LATROBE, PA -- The La Roche women's basketball team dropped a non-conference game at St. Vincent College on Sunday afternoon. The Redhawks were able to overcome a double digit deficit to tie it late, but they ultimately fell on the road 72-64.

The Redhawks used the long ball to jump out to an early 10-6 lead. Jazmyne Boyd and Jenna Cole both drained threes while Boyd added a pair of jumpers. St. Vincent responded with 21 of the next 28 points to swing the momentum in their favor. The Bearcats were able to overcome the deficit thanks to strong play inside where 12 of their 21 points were scored.

Sidney Farmer stopped the run with another Redhawk three-pointer and Stephanie Thomas scored two straight buckets to cut the deficit to four. St. Vincent answered with a pair of three-pointers and entered intermission with a 38-29 lead.

Boyd opened the second half with a three and the Redhawks ran off 10 of the next 11 points. Johnson tied it with a three at 39-39 and a Nia Thomas three-pointer put the Redhawks ahead 44-43 with 5:08 left in the third.

St. Vincent started to pull away but the Redhawks again answered with the three ball. Johnson hit a pair to cut a six point deficit to a 60-60 tie with 6:53 left to play. The Bearcats responded with six straight points and held on for the eight point victory.

Johnson had a team-high 16 points. Boyd scored a season-high 14 points and Brown-Kirby reached double-figures with 10 points.

The Redhawks hit 11 three-pointers.

La Roche will open AMCC Conference play on Wednesday at Franciscan.
