La Roche Closes Tournament With Loss at Guilford

GREENSBORO, NC -- The La Roche women's basketball team closed the Daly Seven Tip-Off Classic falling to host Guilford College 80-41 on Sunday afternoon. Guilford is the ODAC Conference's defending champion.

The Redhawks were unable to replicate their strong shooting effort in yesterday's victory over Meredith College.

La Roche got early buckets from Jenna Cole, Jazmyne Boyd and Nia Thomas to climb out to a 9-8 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter belonged to Guilford who outscored La Roche 23-6 over the ten minutes. Guilford scored ten straight points from the 8:09 mark to the 5:14 mark of the second quarter to take a 20-11 lead. Cole ended the run with a pair of free throws but Guilford ran off the next eleven points and entered halftime with a 31-15 lead.

Cole opened the second half by draining a three-pointer. Guilford however brought the momentum they built up in the first half and closed the quarter on a 13-4 run. The Redhawks started to shoot better in the fourth quarter but Guilford was able to earn the non-conference victory.

Cole finished with 19 points and 8 rebounds.

The Redhawks are off this week and will return to action next Sunday at Saint Vincent College.
