PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche took a step closer to earning their sixth straight AMCC Regular Season title and home court advantage in the AMCC Tournament after defeating Pitt-Greensburg 81-54 on Wednesday night. The Redhawks can clinch both with a victory on Saturday at Pitt-Bradford.
La Roche opened the game on a 12-0 run and carried a 19-8 lead into the first break. Gloria Schifino was on fire in the first quarter hitting a pair of three-pointers and dishing out 2 assists. The Redhawks continued their hot shooting in the second quarter and entered halftime converting 61% (14 of 23) to grab a 34-23 lead. Sabrina McLin was extremely efficient in the first half with 9 points and 5 assists while Schifino led all scorers with 10 points (4 of 5 FG).
The Redhawks forced turnover after turnover in the third quarter for a 58-30 lead and proceeded to roll in the fourth quarter. La Roche matched their first half output shooting 61% from the field and McLin netting 18 points.
La Roche was a force inside winning the rebounding battle (28-18) and outscoring Greensburg both in the paint (52-26) and off second chance points (19-7). The Redhawks shot 61% for the game (31 of 51) and 67% from distance (4 of 6).
McLin finished with a game-high 27 points (9 for 13 FG) to go along with 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Danasha Harris had 10 points, 8 assists and 4 steals while TiChina Mitchell (17 points) and Schifino (10 points) also reached double figures.
Saturday's tip-off is 4pm.
