LADY REDHAWKS WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP! ADVANCE TO NCAA TOURNAMENT!

PITTSBURGH, PA – ONE FOR THE THUMB! The La Roche Lady Redhawks became the first team in AMCC history to win back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back championships after defeating Pitt-Greensburg 73-55 in the title game. La Roche advanced to their fifth straight NCAA Tournament with the victory.

The Lady Redhawks dug themselves into a ten point hole after hitting just 3 of their first 18 shots. However, La Roche's experience held them afloat until a 10-0 end of the half run got them back in it. LaShauna Brothers scored 14 first half points while Mackenzie O'Donnell scored 10 points (8 of 8 FT) and Danasha Harris added 5 steals.

La Roche scored 9 of the second half's first 11 points to take a double digit lead. The Lady Redhawks' took control of the game with defense by forcing four turnovers and blocking two shots during the run. Pitt-Greensburg crept back into it before an 11-0 La Roche run put things away.

O'Donnell finished with a game-high 24 points (12 of 14 FT) while Brothers added a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Sabrina McLin registered her sixteenth straight double digit game with 15 points and Danasha Harris had 7 points, 10 steals, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

The difference in the game was turnovers. La Roche committed just 10 turnovers while Greensburg had 27 and allowed the Lady Redhawks to scored 21 points off turnovers.

After the game, Coach Gissendanner spoke about the championship. "First of all I want to give Pitt-Greensburg credit for a hard fought battle and a great championship game. I'm so proud of my team. We faced a lot of adversity through different courses of the game, but we really found a way to figure out how to win. They really deserved this championship."

Coach Gissendanner also gave credit to La Roche's incredible crowd. "I want to thank the whole student body and the La Roche faculty and staff over the past two days. They made all of the difference in the game and we really fed off of their energy."

Brothers and McLin were named to the All-Tournament team while Brothers, Shataya White and Demetria Coleman became just the third, fourth and fifth players to win four championships (La Roche alumni Casie Cygan and Leslie McPherson also won four).

The Lady Redhawks will find out their destination and opponent on Monday at 2:30pm.
