Lady Redhawks Drop Nail Biter to Waynesburg

PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche women's basketball (9-2) dropped a nail biter to Waynesburg (2-6) 77-75 in an AMCC vs. PAC matchup on Thursday night.

The Lady Redhawks and Waynesburg entered the half tied at 37-37. Danasha Harris and Casie Cygan led the team with 8 points each and La Roche held an advantage on the glass and in the paint.

La Roche used a 6-0 run to take an early second half lead but Waynesburg hung around and grabbed a one point edge with 5:55 left. They extended that lead to seven but the Lady Redhawks stormed back with a big put-back by Shataya White and a deep three from Leslie McPherson. However, Waynesburg made their foul shots down the stretch and held on for the non-conference win.

O'Donnell led La Roche with 18 points and 6 rebounds and Cygan had 14 points and 4 steals. Harris finished with 12 points and went 6 for 6 from the field while White contributed 10 points.

La Roche forced 21 turnovers and assisted on 21 of 33 field goals. The Lady Redhawks outscored Waynesburg by 28 points in the paint but the Yellow Jackets held the rebounding advantage.

Women's hoops will return to action on Saturday, January 11 when they travel to Pitt-Bradford. Both teams are undefeated in AMCC Conference play.
