Redhawks Split Doubleheader Against Celtics

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – It was a tail of two games for La Roche softball on Tuesday afternoon, as game one of the doubleheader went in favor of visiting Carlow, 10-1 in six innings, then in game two, the offense came alive for the Redhawks, shutting out the Celtics 8-0 in five innings.

GAME ONE: Carlow 10 La Roche 1 F/6

Carlow jumped ahead in game one with a run in the first inning, following that up with two runs in the second to lead 3-0.

Two more runs for the Celtics crossed in the fourth and fifth as the deficit grew to 7-0.

La Roche's only run came in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Jesslyn Daniels drove in Cassidee Fitterer with a sacrifice fly.

Carlow would punctuate the game in the top of the sixth with three runs.

Maura Wade got the start across four innings allowed five runs (four earned), eight hits, two walks and struck out one.

Klover Haberthier threw two innings of relief, allowing five runs (two earned), five hits, two walks and set down one of her own.

Offensively, the Redhawks ended with four hits, as four players each collected a hit.

GAME TWO: La Roche 8 Carlow 0 F/5

Game two was all La Roche and it started in the first inning when Makenzie Formeck scored on a Carlow error to make it 1-0.

Two more runs scored in the bottom of the second behind a Daniels sacrifice fly to score Garrah Milochik, then Formeck singled in Ashlee Bair as the lead grew to 3-0.

The Redhawks ended the game in the fifth inning, plating five runs to put the run rule in effect, all with two outs.

After the first two batters of the inning got out, Wade tripled and Fitterer plated Wade with a triple of her own.

Milochik followed with an RBI single to score Fitterer, then two batters later, Kynnydy Lewis made it 7-0 with a two RBI single.

Once again, two batters later, the game ended as Daniels ripped a single to left field to score the game-winning run.

In game two, Emma Kaufman got the start and threw a gem, allowing just four hits, one walk and struck out two for the shutout victory, the first of her collegiate career.

Offensively, the Redhawks racked up nine hits, as Formeck (2-for-3), Milochik (2-for-3) and Lewis (2-for-2) all picked up multiple in the game.

La Roche returns to action on Thursday, Apr. 25 when it welcomes Grove City for a non-conference doubleheader. Game one is set to begin at 3 p.m.
