La Roche Ends Texas Trip With Doubleheader Defeat Against Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – La Roche softball closed out its trip to Texas with a doubleheader against Trinity. In game one, it was the Tigers coming out victorious 9-1 in five innings, then in game two, the result stayed the same, ending 9-1 in five innings.

GAME ONE: Trinity 9 La Roche 1 F/5

Trinity was quick to put runs on the board in game one, plating all nine in the first three innings.

It was 4-0 after the first, as the Tigers received a pair of RBI singles and doubles to jump ahead.

The bottom of the first saw Trinity score a single run to make it 5-0 on another RBI double, then in the bottom of the third, the Tigers scored their final four runs after a Redhawks error, an RBI single, an RBI double and a sacrifice fly.

La Roche's lone run came in the top of the fourth inning when Jesslyn Daniels scored thanks to a Trinity defensive error.

Maura Wade got the start and in one inning allowed four runs and six hits.

Three relievers entered the circle for the Redhawks, including Klover Haberthier who allowing five runs (three earned), four hits and walked three, while Kynnydy Lewis and Emma Kaufman combined for the final two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two.

Offensively, La Roche had two hits with Wade collecting both in a 2-for-2 showing at the dish.

GAME TWO: Trinity 9 La Roche 1 F/5

Trinity started the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to jump ahead 1-0 in game two.

The Redhawks would have a response in the top of the third when Wade's RBI fielder's choice scored Ashtin Hoover to even the game at 1-1.

The tie was quickly taken away as the Tigers sparked for four runs in the bottom of the third to make it 5-1 behind a La Roche error, sacrifice fly, RBI single and a bases loaded walk.

The Redhawks saw the game come to an end in the bottom of the fifth as Trinity plated four runs on an RBI single, two RBI triple and a walk-off sacrifice fly to put the five inning, eight-run rule into effect.

Kaufman took the circle for La Roche and in 2.1 innings allowed five runs (four earned), seven hits, one walk and struck out one.

Lewis pitched in relief, allowing four runs, four hits and three walks in 2.1 innings.

The Redhawks had two hits in game two, this time it was Hoover picking up both going 2-for-2.

La Roche returns home for its home opener on Monday, Mar. 18, as the Redhawks welcome St. Vincent for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 3 p.m.
