Redhawks Drop Doubleheader To Roos

SHERMAN, Texas – La Roche softball continued play against the Austin Roos today in a doubleheader, falling in a close game one by a score of 4-3 and in game two Austin pulled away with a 19-0 victory in five innings.

GAME ONE: Austin 4 La Roche 3

The Redhawks took charge in the first game of the day, when Makenzie Formeck's sacrifice fly drove in the first run of the season, making it 1-0 in the top of the first.

La Roche held the Roos scoreless over the first two innings, but Austin got a two RBI single in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead, then added another in the bottom of the fourth on another RBI single to make it a 3-1 edge.

The Redhawks wasted no time responding tying the game in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs, making it 3-3.

Ashtin Hoover opened the scoring with an RBI triple to score Emma Bizay, making it 3-2, then Formeck drove in her second run of the game with an RBI groundout, crossing Hoover to even the game.

Austin answered quickly, scoring the game winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning by way of an RBI double, leading to the eventual 4-3 final.

Kynnydy Lewis got the start for La Roche, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing three runs, five hits, one walk and struck out two.

Maura Wade took the loss pitching 2.2 innings of relief, allowing just one unearned run and three hits.

Offensively, La Roche had 10 hits, as Hoover and Wade each had a 3-for-4 outing, while Brandi Clyde added a 2-for-2 showing.

GAME TWO: Austin 19 La Roche 0 F/5

It was all Roos in game two, jumping ahead with a crooked 10 spot in the top of the first inning to take a commanding lead.

Austin then proceeded to add six in the bottom of the second and three more in the bottom of the third to lead to the eventual final score.

Emma Kaufman was handed the loss in the circle for the Redhawks, allowing nine runs, five hits and two walks in 0.2 innings of work.

Klover Haberthier chipped in 0.2 innings of relief work herself, allowing six runs, five hits, one walk and one strikeout, while Lewis threw the final 2.2 innings, allowing four runs, seven hits, one walk and one strikeout herself.

Offensively, La Roche could only muster one hit in the game, coming off the bat of Formeck.

The Redhawks are right back at it tomorrow, Tuesday Mar. 12 when they face University of Dallas in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. EST/2 p.m. CST
