Softball Opens Home Season with Doubleheader Victory

PITTSBURGH, PA - La Roche Softball opened their home season this afternoon in a doubleheader against the Penn State Beaver Lions. The Redhawks went all out for their home supporters and gave them two winning games to watch.

GAME ONE

The Redhawks had hot hands in game one against the Lions. Ashtin Hoover led the team going 4-for-4 at the plate. Hoover smacked a single in the first inning, the third inning, the fourth inning, and the fifth inning.

La Roche's highest-scoring inning was the third; the team drove in 6 runs. The offensive firepower was led by Garrah Milochik, who led the Redhawks with 3 RBIs today, Alexis Myers, Brandi Clyde, Macy Vignolini, and Emma Bizay. Each recorded RBIs in the third inning.

They couldn't have done it without Kennedi Winslow leading the team in the circle. Winslow was named this afternoon AMCC Pitcher of the Week, and she honored herself by pitching another stellar game. The lefty surrendered 3 runs on 6 hits, over 5 innings. Winslow struck out 2 Lions and only walked one. With this prime pitching performance, she gave her team the room to excel on offense and led themselves into a 5 inning victory.

GAME TWO

After a short rain delay, the Redhawks set off in pursuit of a sweep in game two.

Garrah Milochik and Ashtin Hoover understood the assignment and went 4-for-4 at bat against the Lions. Milochik recorded 3 more RBIs in game two, for a total of 6 RBIs for the entire day.

Penn State Beaver did attempt to make a comeback against the Redhawks, scoring 2 runs in the fourth inning, and 3 runs in the fifth. But the La Roche offense made sure to put some more space between them, scoring 2 more runs in their final at-bat during the bottom of the sixth.

Alexis Myers was crowned the winning pitcher for La Roche in game two. She went 7 innings in the circle, only allowing 5 runs.

The Redhawk offense was once again alive in game two, with a total of 17 hits across 7 innings. Milochik, Hoover, and Abby Hoffman each had multiple hits for the day. Kennedi Winslow, Katie Gaughan, Brandi Clyde, Macy Vignolini, Maria Schussler, and Emma Bizay each recorded a hit to level up the Redhawk offense.

La Roche will be back this Saturday at home to open their conference season against Penn State Behrend. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
