La Roche Falls to Penn State-Altoona in Extra Innings

PITTSBURGH, PA - La Roche University lost the lead late in a 14-8 defeat to Penn State Altoona on Monday. The game was tied at six with Penn State Altoona batting in the top of the eighth when an error scored one run for Penn State Altoona.

This afternoon the Lions were the first on the board, sneaking by on a wild pitch from Redhawk pitcher Alexis Myers.

The second inning the Lions really hit their stride and scored four runs.

Mackenzie Lukehart was walked for an RBI, and then with the bases fully loaded, Jayde Burge smacked a double out to center field, clearing the bases and earning herself three RBIs.

It was then that the Redhawks made the decision to put Emilee Waldrop in the circle.

Myers allowed five runs on five hits.

The third inning saw the La Roche bats come to life. Macy Vignolini started the rally with a base hit. Katie Gaughan was able to reach base after she was hit by a pitch, and Ashtin Hoover singled to load the bases.

Kelly Denk stepped up to the plate and said no problem, and smashed a double out to center field, allowing two runs to score.

Waldrop did the same with a double to left field, pushing in Denk and Hoover, and before you knew it the Redhawks were back within one (5-4).

The Redhawks took the lead in the fifth inning with a single to right field from Emilee Waldrop, driving in two runs. La Roche was up by one.

Penn State-Altoona came back to tie the game 6-6 after a throwing error by Milochick allowed the batter to reach third base, and the runner on second to score.

The Lions thought they took the lead on a sac fly but the runner was out for leaving early, and the Redhawks stayed tied 6-6.

The game continued on into extra innings, with Altoona taking the lead with eight runs scored in the top of the eighth inning.

La Roche tried to battle and bring it back, scoring two runs, but it was not enough to claim the win.

Emily Waldrop took the loss for the Redhawks. Waldrop lasted six innings, allowing nine hits and eight runs while striking out one and walking one.

Myers started the game for LRU. The righty lasted two innings, allowing four hits and five runs while striking out one

La Roche racked up eight hits. Ashtin Hoover and Denk all managed multiple hits for La Roche University. Denk and Hoover each collected two hits to lead the Redhawks.
