Preview: Softball Faces Mt. Aloysius in AMCC Semifinals

The La Roche University softball team will travel to Cresson, PA to take on Mt. Aloysius this Wednesday, May 10th for the AMCC semifinals. The best-of-three game series is set to start at 12:00 p.m. No live stats will be provided by the host site for the games.

La Roche News and Notes

  • The #7 seeded Redhawks swept #2 seed and co-regular season champion Pitt Bradford in the biggest upset of the tournament so far on the road Monday in the AMCC quarterfinals. LRU won the first two games of the best of three series to advance. La Roche took both games 1-0. Alexa Young pitched two complete game shutouts. In 15.0 innings of work, Young had 12 strike-outs, one walk, seven hits and no earned runs. Alexis Myers knocked in the game winning run in the top of the eighth of game one and Brandi Clyde hit an RBI single to seal the deal in the top of the seventh of game two.
  • The last time La Roche softball made it to the AMCC semifinal was during the 2014-15 season.
  • La Roche softball's last playoff win, prior to Monday, was during the 2015-16 season.
  • The Redhawks did not commit a single error in either of their playoff wins. LRU was averaging an AMCC worst 3.1 errors per game heading into Monday's series and had only one game during the regular season without a fielding error.
  • The Panthers, who went 14-2 in conference play, had not been shutout all season prior to Monday's games.
  • Junior Brandi Clyde had the best day at the plate for LRU in the quarterfinals. Clyde went 3-for-5 with the series clinching RBI. Her three hits were the most by any Redhawk.
  • As a unit, LRU batted 9-54 (.167) at the plate against Bradford, tied for the lowest number of hits in a two game stretch this season.

Mt. Aloyius News and Notes

  • #3 seed Mount Aloysius swept the first two games of a best-of-three series against #6 seed Pitt-Greensburg, guaranteeing them a spot in the AMCC Semifinals.
  • Kayla Diehl produced two hits and three RBIs, on the day, including her first career home run. In game two, she scored three runs for Mount Aloysius.
  • Abby Reitz added to her team leading stats, as she drove in five runs, giving her 24 RBIs on the season. In game two, she hit two triples, giving her a team-high, six on the season. She also leads the AMCC in triples, and is in a tie for fourth place in RBIs.
  • Madison Hillard picked up the victory in both games for Mount Aloysius, giving her eight wins on the season, placing her in a tie for the most wins in the AMCC. She also dropped her ERA to 2.28, good for second in the league.
  • The Mounties went 9-7 in conference play during the regular season.
  • Mt. Aloysius has won the last two AMCC Tournament Championships (2019, 2018).

Series History

  • The teams last met on April 28th, 2021 at La Roche for the conference games of the week. The Redhawks split the doubleheader with Mounties. Devan Smith hit a walk-off single in game one.
  • LRU is 7-12 all-time against Mt. Aloysius dating back to 2014.
