Preview: Softball Travels to Pitt Bradford

The La Roche University softball team will play their final regular season doubleheader on Saturday, May 1st at Pitt Bradford. Game one is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.

La Roche News and Notes

  • The Redhawks are currently 7-9 overall and 7-7 in conference play. They sit at the number four spot in the AMCC standings.
  • LRU split their last doubleheader against third place Mt. Aloysius. Devan Smith hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to propel La Roche to a 3-2 victory in their first extra innings game of the season. Alexa Young picked up her fifth win and fanned eight batters.
  • In conference doubleheaders this season, the Redhawks are 5-2 in game ones and 2-5 in game twos.
  • Senior Devan Smith leads the team and is fourth in the conference with 23 RBI. Her .413 batting average ranks second on the team and 10th in the AMCC. She has had at least one RBI in seven of her last eight games and two walk-off singles in both of the Redhawks last two doubleheaders.
  • Freshman Alexis Myers is currently on a team best 11-game hitting streak. Myers has registered a hit in all but two games this season.
  • Junior Kelly Denk has registered multiple hits in five of her last six games. She also has five extra base hits (two doubles, three triples) in her last four games. Her four triples on the season rank tied for first in the AMCC.
  • Freshman Ashtin Hoover ranks second in the conference with a .473 battting average.
  • Senior pitcher Alexa Young has gone 3-0 in her last three starts. In those three wins, she pitched 21.0 innings and gave up just three earned runs. Her five wins and 2.94 ERA this season both rank sixth in the conference.

Pitt Bradford News and Notes

  • The Panthers are currently second in the AMCC standings with an impressive 12-2 record in conference play. Their only two losses came to first place Penn St. Behrend. PSB is also 12-2 in conference action.
  • Most recently, Bradford edged out Pitt Greensburg in a doublheader sweep on April 24th by combined runs total of 11-8.
  • UPB has outscored their opponents 103-52 this season.
  • Hannah Lathrop leads the Panthers with 24 hits and a .436 batting average (6th in AMCC). Lathrop has proven to be one of the conference's top power hitters with four homeruns on the season.
  • On the mound, Jordan Uhing has a league best 1.64 ERA and is 7-1. In 55.1 IP, she has 52 strikeouts and only five walks. Bradford's other starting pitcher Kerrigan Hoffmann has a 2.64 ERA. In 45.0 IP, she has 27 strikeouts and five walks.
  • As a unit, the Panthers own a conference best 2.42 ERA.
