Washington & Jefferson Takes Two From La Roche

La Roche grabbed an early lead with a run in the top of the first. Devan Smith took a 3-2 pitch to draw a walk and then swiped second base. Alexis Medva came through with a single up the middle and a 1-0 Redhawk lead.

Alexa Young left a W&J runner at second base in the bottom of the first, but the Presidents tallied five runs in the second inning. Young limited the damage, getting a strikeout to leave runners at all three bases.

W&J loaded the bases and strung together three 2-out RBI hits to take a 9-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth. The Redhawks went down in order in the top of the fifth and W&J earned the victory.

The Redhawks got right back to work in Game 2, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. Kelly Denk hit a two-out double down the left field line and Medva drove her in with a single into left.

W&J tied it in the bottom of the inning, but La Roche came away with a run in the top of the second. Emily Samluk drew a lead-off walk, and advanced to second on a Kaylee Grassmyer sac bunt. Kayla Ordos beat out an infield single to get runners to the corners, and Smith came through with a single through the left side and a 2-1 lead. 

The Presidents used a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead. W&J took an 8-6 lead in the fourth, and despite a Rory Bretz RBI-hit in the fifth, held on for the victory.

Denk went 3 for 4 with 2 runs, and a double. Smith and Medva each had two hits and an RBI. Grassmyer scored a run and Samluk drove in one.
