Redhawks Split Double Header at St. Vincent

La Roche won the first game of the series 3-2.

St. Vincent scored twice in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead.

The Redhawks answered in the top of the fourth when Rory Bretz doubled home Alexis Medva to cut the lead in half to 2-1.

La Roche tied it in the fifth. Devan Smith singled to center field, allowing Emily Samluk to cross homeplate and Alexa Young to advance to third. Dayna Calloway then drove in Alexa Young to give the Redhawks a 3-2 lead.

Starting pitcher Alexa Young was excellent, stranding St. Vincent runners at second base in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. She then sent the Bearcats down in order in the sixth and seventh innings to win the game.

Rory Bretz doubled while Devan Smith, Dayna Calloway, and Rory Bretz all had RBIs. 

Alexa Young pitched 7 innings. 117 pitches total, 73 strikes; giving up only 2 earned runs. 2 walks, and 8 strikeouts.

La Roche lost the second game 9-1.

The Redhawks got to work early as Alexis Medva singled home Kelly Denk in the top of the first

That was the only offense La Roche would find, and St. Vincent tallied four runs in the first inning and five more in the fifth.

Kelly Denk and Kaylee Grassmyer finished with doubles. Alexis Medva had the lone RBI.

Kaylee Grassmyer pitched 4 innings with 1 strikeout. Rory Bretz came in and pitched .2 innings.

The Redhawks move to 3-7 overall. They play another double header against Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday the 26th.
