Softball Closes Season With Victory at Grove City

GROVE CITY, PA -- La Roche College softball split a pair of extra inning games at Grove City. They fell in game one 3-2, before closing the season with a 5-4 victory in game 2.

Game 1:

La Roche's game ended in a walk-off for the second consecutive game. This time the Redhawks came up on the losing end, falling in game one 3-2 (8 innings).

Kaylee Grassmyer cruised through the first five innings. She left runners on in the first and second innings and followed with three straight perfect innings.

La Roche broke the scoreless tie with a run in the fourth inning. Kelsey Bayer hit a one-out double and scored on an Alexis Medva double. A single and walk loaded the bases, but a pick-off, strikeout ended the threat.

Kelsey Plato doubled home Andie Lippman to make it 2-0 midway through the fifth inning.

La Roche left a runner on in the top of the sixth and Grove City tied it with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.

Relief pitcher Alexa Young got out of a runners on second and third jam in the bottom of the seventh. The Redhawks stranded a runner on third base in the top of the eighth. Grove City was able to plate the winning run in the bottom of the inning.

8 of 9 Redhawks reached base. Plato and Medva had RBIs while Lippman and Bayer scored runs.

Grassmyer allowed 2 runs over 5 innings.

Game 2:

The Redhawks entered extra innings in the late game, this time coming away with the victory. La Roche concluded the season with a 5-4 (8 innings) win at Grove City.

Young left a runner at second base in the first inning. Grove City plated two in the bottom of the second but the Redhawks answered in the third.

Meghan Haynes led off with a single and advance to third on two straight groundouts. Lippman singled home Haynes and then scored on a Plato triple.

Young kept Grove City off the board and the Redhawks grabbed the lead in the fifth. Plato registered her second RBI of the game, hitting in Lippman.

Grove City tied it with an RBI double in the sixth inning. Young however followed with a perfect seventh inning to send it into extras.

The Redhawks took advantage with a pair in the top of the eighth. The seniors came through with Aubrie Martin doubling home Lippman, who started the inning on second base. Medva gave La Roche an insurance run with an RBI double. 

Grove City got one back in the eighth, but the Redhawks used two straight groundouts to preserve the win.

Lippman scored three runs and Plato hit in two. Young earned the victory.
