Franciscan Takes 2 Game Series From Redhawks

PITTSBURGH, PA – The La Roche Softball team dropped a double header to Franciscan on Friday afternoon 13-4 (6 innings), 11-5. The Redhawks fall to 13-15 overall and 7-9 against AMCC Conference.

Game 1: Franciscan used an RBI triple and RBI groundout to grab a 2-0 lead midway through the first.

The Redhawks got one back in the bottom of the inning. Aubrie Martin drew a 2-out walk and scored on an error at first base.

Franciscan struck for two more in the top of the second and a 5-1 lead.

La Roche stranded a pair in the second and Franciscan took a 7-1 edge in top of the third. The Barons added two runs in the fourth, but Kayla Ordos limited the damage catching a runner trying to advance home.

The Redhawks got things going in the bottom of the third. Kelsey Bayer led off with a triple to center and scored on a Devan Smith RBI double. Smith scored on an Ashley Burford sac fly to left field for a 9-3 game after four innings.

Franciscan scored in the top of the fifth but La Roche answered in the bottom of the fifth. Plato led off with a double and scored on a Bayer single through the left side.

The Barons added two more in the sixth and went on to win 13-4.

Bayer and Devan Smith each went 2 for 3 with a run and RBI. Burford hit in one while Plato and Martin scored.

Game 2: Franciscan scored on a double steal and sac fly in the first inning.

Burford, Lippman, and Plato led off with back-to-back-to-back triples to tie it at 2-2. Leonard and Devan Smith followed with doubles to the wall for a 4-2 Redhawk lead.

Savannah Leonard got out of a no-out bases loaded jam in the top of the second. Michaela Geracia grabbed a lineout and tossed it to Martin for a double play. Leonard then got a comebacker to the mound for the third out.

La Roche took a 5-2 lead in the third inning. Devan Smith had a two-out single through the left side and scored on a Martin double to centerfield.

Franciscan cut it to 5-4 in the top of the fourth. The Redhawks left runners on second and third in the bottom of the inning. The Barons scored twice for a 6-5 lead halfway through the fifth. They tallied another run in the sixth and four more in the seventh for the 11-5 victory.

Burford went 3 for 4 with a run. Lippman and Devan Smith each went 2 for 4 with a run and RBI.
