Softball Drops Double Header at D'Youville

BUFFALO, NY – La Roche College softball dropped a double-header on Saturday. The Redhawks fell in Game One 7-1 before being edged out 5-4 in Game Two.

Game 1:

Starting pitcher Kaylee Grassmyer opened with two scoreless innings. The Redhawks could not convert with runners on in the first, second, and third innings.

D'Youville got on the board with three unearned runs in the bottom of the third inning. They added three more on a 2-run triple and RBI groundout for a 6-0 lead after four innings.

La Roche got one back on an Ashley Burford RBI single in the top of the fifth. The Spartans tallied an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth and went on to win 7-1.

Burford went 2 for 3 with an RBI while Devan Smith went 2 for 3 with a run.

Game 2:

The Redhawks recovered in Game 2. They left runners on second and third in the top of the first but got out of a one-out bases loaded jam by allowing just one run.

Alexa Young followed with two scoreless innings while the Redhawk offense struck for three in the top of the fourth.

Savannah Leonard hit a one-out double to left-centerfield. Michaela Geracia pinch ran for Leonard and advanced to third on a Kelsey Bayer single. Devan Smith and Alexis Medva followed with RBI singles and the lead. Kayla Ordos walked to load them up and Andie Lippman drew a bases loaded walk for a 3-1 lead.

D'Youville answered with three in the bottom half of the fourth.

Young followed with a 1-2-3 fifth inning. The Redhawks tied it on a Lippman infield single in the top of the sixth, but squandered a chance to add more.

The Spartans grabbed the lead in the bottom of the sixth and held on for the 5-4 victory.

Devan Smith went 3 for 3 with 2 runs and an RBI. Lippman hit in a pair.
