Softball split brings record to 5-3. Shutout win over Wentworth, loss to SUNY Poly

The La Roche Softball team and the top of their lineup got to work early in the first game of the day against Wentworth. Devan Smith and Andie Lippman both ended up on the bases and were brought home by Kelsey Plato in the first (2-0).

The offense continued in the second and third innings as Plato and Ordos registered SAC flies to bring home teammates. Alexis Medva added an RBI single. Scattered around these runs were two unearned runs.

Pitching and defense added to the (8-0) shutout. Alexa Young threw a complete game shutout, only allowing two hits and recorded five strikeouts for the Redhawks.

The team followed up the morning win with a tight loss against SUNY Poly (5-6). The lineup jumped ahead early to a (4-1) lead through four innings. RBI hits by Aubriatta Martin, Plato and Athena Smith fueled the offense.

However, the Wildcats were able to string together consecutive hits and a five run 5th inning to take the leade (6-4). Bailee Haddad and Bailey Wood each had 2 RBI's in the big inning. Martin was able to make the final inning interesting with a homer to right field (6-5), but the Redhawks could not collect another run.

The final day of the trip for the Redhawks is Friday. Games scheduled against Mary Washington at 9:30am and Wilkes at 1:30pm.
