Redhawks Use Late Comeback To Tie Panthers 5-5

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche men's soccer needed a comeback effort to draw Pitt-Bradford on Saturday, as the final score read 5-5.

 

The Redhawks started fast, netting the first goal of the match at 10:23 when Mwamba Lungu scored, assisted by Ramadhan Hamis Nkubas.

 

Just 2:04 later, the Panthers tied the game at 12:27 and just 3:23 after that, took the lead 2-1.

 

La Roche responded fast as Tyler Bryan netted an unassisted goal at 17:09 to even the game 2-2.

 

Down the later stretch of the first half, Pitt-Bradford would go on to score goals at 34:23 and 39:15 to take a 4-2 into the break.

 

The Redhawks were unphased, scoring just 48 seconds into the second half to cut the deficit to 4-3, as Jesus Angel Jimenez scored, assisted by Jake Gorman.

 

Once again, the Panthers were quick to respond, regaining the two goal lead at 5-3, scoring at 50:43, just under five minutes after the deficit was trimmed.

 

La Roche remained resilient, and in the later stage of the game, scored two goals in 4:57 to tie things up.

 

At 73:50, the Redhawks received some help with an own goal, then at 78:47, Samuel Mastroberardino would cap off the comeback.

 

The shot totals were even for the match, with Pitt-Bradford holding a slight 17-15 edge. The Panthers placed 12 shots on goal of their 17, while La Roche had eight.

 

Between the pipes, sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Rizzo halted seven of the 12 shots he faced.

 

Gorman and Mariory Mondesir led the team with three shots each, while Mondesir had two shots on goal for a team-high.

 

The Redhawks conclude the three-game home stand on Tuesday, Oct. 10 when they meet Carlow at 3 p.m.
