Redhawks Toppled By Bison 4-2

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche men's soccer returned home for its second home game, but were unable to get by the Bethany Bison, falling 4-2 on Thursday afternoon.

Bethany would be the first on the board, scoring at the 20:37 mark of the first half to lead 1-0.

At 38:24, the Redhawks (0-3, 0-0 AMCC) would strike as Mwamba Lungu found the back of the net to even the game 1-1.

However, the Bison would quickly respond, scoring just 1:34 later to take a 2-1 lead, one it would hold at the half.

In the second half, Bethany would add insurance to the scoreboard, netting a pair of goals in 2:22 seconds at 57:04 and 59:26 to take a commanding 4-1.

La Roche continued to fight, drawing a penalty in the box for a penalty kick, which was unfortunately denied by the Bison keeper, but would eventually add a second tally when Malvin Madzimbamuto scored the final goal of the game at 78:44.

The final shot total saw Bethany hold a slight edge of 14-9, with the Bison placing nine on the frame and the Redhawks putting seven on target.

Between the pipes, sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Rizzo made five saves on the nine attempts.

Madzimbamuto led the way offensively with four shots, two of which were on goal, while Jake Gorman had two shots, both on the frame.

La Roche has one more contest this week, and it will take place on the road at Hiram College on Saturday, Sep. 9 with opening kickoff at 3 p.m.
