Redhawks Collect First Conference Win vs. Alfred St. at Home

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The men's soccer team snapped a five game losing streak after defeating Alfred St. at home this afternoon 1-0 to pick up their first conference win of the season. Today is La Roche's second shutout of the year, both at the Baierl Athletic Complex (9/6/2019 vs St Vincent, 6-0). Previous to today's match, the Redhawks were 0-2 in games decided by a single goal. Today's match was physical, a whopping combined total of eight yellow cards (La Roche: 4, Alfred St: 3) and 39 fouls (La Roche: 17, Alfred St: 22) were handed out.

Synopsis

In the first half, La Roche came out swinging taking the first four shots of the game. The finished the half with 8 shots total compared to the Pioneers 6, but neither team was able to capitalize. 

Junior midfielder Firas Abduljawad scored the lone goal of the contest in the 68th minute of the match off a penalty kick. Firas was awarded the kick after he dribbled the ball into the right side of the goal area and was tripped by a Pioneer defender. He now leads the Redhawks on the season with 5 goals (tied with Junior forward Kyle Harriett) and 13 points. 

La Roche has scored 17 of their 18 goals this season at home. They have also collected all three wins at the Baierl Athletic Complex.
