Men's Soccer Defeats Thiel Behind Senior Abduljawad's Four Points

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - This afternoon, the men's soccer team snapped a two game losing streak and got their second win on the season after defeating non-conference opponent Thiel College at the Baierl Sports Complex. The Redhawks were led today by Senior midfielder Firas Abduljawad's four points (one goal and two assists).

The first La Roche goal came in the 6th minute of the first half when Firas found Junior forward Kyle Harriett at the top of the penalty box where he shot the ball to the right side of the net past Thiel's keeper. The goal marks Harriett's fourth on the season, good enough for first on the team and tied for second in the AMCC. La Roche struck again shortly after when Firas passed the ball to a running Samuel Kamagate who took a shot inside the left side of the penalty box and put the ball in the back right corner of the goal. The Redhawks headed into the 2nd half ahead 2-0.

The next goal would come in the 56th minute off a Jake Gorman header from Hugo Arroyo right outside the goal area. Thiel sophomore forward Bradley Novak scored the team's lone goal in the 58th minute of the contest. Firas then sealed the deal in the 83rd minute after he dribbled the ball for 20 yards down the field through Tomcat defenders and ripped a shot to the top right of the goal just inside the penalty box. The goal marks his 3rd on the season.

After a career game, Firas now ranks 5th all-time in career assists in program history with 16, cementing his status as one of the best facilitators to ever play at La Roche. His four points today are the most he has ever recorded in a single game. He is currently tied for 4th in the AMCC in total points with 8.

Final Score: La Roche: 4, Thiel:1

Records: La Roche (2-4), Thiel (0-5-1)
