Redhawks Open Conference Play With Loss to Behrend

PITTSBURGH, PA – The La Roche men's soccer team opened AMCC Conference play with a 5-1 loss to Penn State Behrend. The Redhawks fall to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the AMCC.

The Redhawks' defense played as a unit, drawing an offsides trap and keeping Behrend off the board. The Lions grabbed the lead on a forty yard free kick that slipped past a screened La Roche goalkeeper.

Behrend struck from the top right corner of the box for a 2-0 lead in the twenty-first minute.

La Roche slid into a handball inside their box and converted the PK for a 3-0 advantage early in the second half. Firas Abduljawad answered, drawing a foul and stepping up and striking a ball past a diving goalkeeper.

In the sixtieth minute, Austin Gorman made a terrific sliding stop to keep the Redhawks within two. Behrend however found their fourth goal, beating a charging keeper with sixteenth minutes left in regulation.  The Lions added a fifth goal in the eighty-eighth minute.

Gorman made six saves in the loss.
