Westminster Slips Past Men's Soccer

PITTSBURGH, PA -- Westminster slipped past La Roche, taking a 2-0 victory on the wet turf at the Baierl Athletic Complex. The Redhawks fall to 2-5 and will play their final out of conference test on Wednesday at Geneva.

Westminster's Nick Iregui scored twice in the opening frame as Westminster climbed to a 2-0 halftime lead. Both goals came from the left side of the box with Iregui cutting through the box on the first goal and curling in the second.

The Redhawks equaled Westminster in shots on goal over the first forty-five minutes. Despite the halftime deficit, Austin Gorman made quality saves, including a kick save and diving save late in the half to keep La Roche within striking distance.

An offsides call denied a La Roche scoring chance early in the second half. Gorman pushed aside a breakaway in the sixty-first minute and the Redhawks earned two straight corner kicks just two minutes later. Firas Abduljawad sent a quality set piece near the goaliline, but the pass was just a inch too much and cleared to safety. Kyle Harriet lifted the second corner over the crossbar.

The Redhawks continued to attack the Westminster end but they were unable to find the back of the net. Gorman and the defense kept the Titans off the board in the second half.

Westminster held a 19-13 edge in shots and each keeper made 7 saves.
