Men's Soccer Falls to Franciscan in AMCC Tournament Quarterfinal

STEUBENVILLE, OH -- Franciscan's Leo Herman scored two second half goals as the Barons hung on to win a 2-1 AMCC Tournament Quarterfinal game. La Roche's Pedro Ansede scored his record sixteenth goal of the season and Ximo Vicent his record fourteenth assist (also ranks 2nd nationally).

The Redhawks were excellent defensively and limited the Franciscan attack early. They cut off all Franciscan shooting lanes and blocked three shots in the first nine minutes. Pedro Ansede provided the early offense burying a goal in the twelfth minute. Pedro Ansede played a give and go to Ximo Vicent who headed it back and Ansede blasted it left of the charging Baron keeper Thomas Dosedel. 

Franciscan was held to just one shot on goal in the first half but they did not go without scoring chances. AMCC goal leader Leo Herrman provided the Barons best chance when he hit the post in the twenty-sixth minute. La Roche's Aaron Lagnese came up unlucky in the thirty-second minute when his shot directed off the crossbar and the rebound was push asisde by Franciscan's Dosedel.

Franciscan held an 11-7 first half advantage in shots but the Redhawks got four more shots to net.

The Barons started finding shooting lanes in the second half and Herrman tied it with a goal in the forty-seventh minute. Redhawks' keeper Abdullah Aljundi made two initial saves before Herrman played the rebound into the back of the net. 

The slick field aided Franciscan in scoring their second goal of the game in the sixty-eighth minute. The Redhawks tried to clear a ball inside the six-yard box but Herrman intercepted it and lifted it into the top right corner. 

La Roche outshot Franciscan 4-2 over the final twenty minutes of the game but the Barons hung on for the victory.

Aljundi made 7 saves. Firas Abduljawad attempted 3 shots while Ansede and Kyle Harriett had two. Leo Hermann attempted 10 shots for Franciscan.
