Redhawks Clinch Eleventh Straight Postseason Appearance, Take #26 Ranked Carnegie Mellon into Overtime

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The Redhawks went toe to toe with national power CMU and extended the game into overtime before falling 4-3 to #26 ranked Carnegie Mellon. The Tartans are ranked third in the Great Lakes Region and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round last season.

La Roche clinched an AMCC Tournament berth despite the loss. Penn State Behrend's 3-1 win over Pitt-Bradford and Franciscan's 4-0 win over Penn State Altoona clinched La Roche's eleventh straight postseason appearance.

Pedro Ansede registered his fifteenth career goal and moved into a tie for third on the school's all-time goals list. Ximo Vicent scored his eighth goal of the season and climbed into sixth place on the school's all-time points list. Nick Shaw tallied his third career goal while Firas Abduljawad added his seventh helper and Kyle Harriett his fifth. Abdullah Aljundi got the start in goal and made seven saves.

Aljundi made two early stops and limited the Carnegie Mellon attack until Jimmy Jameson converted a PK for a 1-0 lead in the twenty-first minute.

The Redhawks' defense tightened up following the score and the offense responded with a goal just six minutes later. Carnegie Mellon keeper Alex Lam got a hand on Abduljawad's shot but Ansede collected the rebound and fired it in for a 1-1 game.

La Roche grabbed the lead in the fifty-second minute with Vicent's goal. The Redhawks drew a foul 28 yards out and Vicent curled his free kick into the top left corner of the net.

The Tartans Greg Bellwoar evened it in the fifty-sixth minute but La Roche responded just three minutes later. Harriett sent a corner kick curling through the six yard box and Nick Shaw deflected his shot off a CMU defender for a 3-2 lead.

The Redhawks controlled the tempo and nearly added a fourth goal but Vicent's shot found the post and scooted out of harm's way.

Carnegie Mellon tied it on a PK in the eighty-second minute and the Redhawks entered overtime playing a man-down. CMU's Jamie Wheaton scored the game-winner in overtime.

La Roche returns to conference play on Saturday at Penn State Behrend.
