Harriett Scores Twice as Redhawks Climb AMCC Standings

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The La Roche men's soccer team climbed into fourth place in the AMCC Conference standings after beating Hilbert 4-1.

La Roche struck just two minutes into regulation. Ximo Vicent settled a ball on the end line and found Firas Abduljawad cutting through the box and a 1-0 lead.

Hilbert found a seam in the Redhawk defense to even things up less than a minute later. Austin Gorman made a quality diving stop with three minutes left in the first half to keep it a 1-1 game.

The Redhawks enjoyed a majority of the scoring chances in the first half and held a 22-5 shot advantage. Tom Spagnolo and Pedro Ansede both just missed goals and Peter Kuir sent a high curling shot that caught the post.

Vicent forced Hilbert's Ryan Valentine to make a leaping save on a free kick in the fifty-fifth minute.

Kyle Harriet then came through to give the Redhawks a 2-1 lead just 3 minutes later. Abduljawad sent a through ball to the left side of the box and Harriett used the outside of his foot to play it past the keeper.

Harriett was not done. He gave the Redhawks an insurance goal scoring in the sixty-fourth minute on a feed from Vicent.

Conner Hagins nearly put the Redhawks up three but his free kick caught the crossbar. The ensuing shot found the back of the net but an offsides call negated the goal.

La Roche outshot Hilbert 41-6. Harriet scored twice and Vicent provided three assists.
