La Roche and Medaille Battle it out in Double Overtime

BUFFALO, NY -- Fans were rewarded with a thrilling 2OT AMCC Conference game on Saturday night. The Redhawks headed up to Medaile and put together an incredible road performance before a goal at the 109:25 mark allowed the Mavericks to escape with a 4-3 victory. Goalkeeper Austin Gorman was terrific for the Redhawks making 11 stops and Ximo Vicent sparked the offense with 2 goals and an assist.

Medaille controlled play early on their home turf. They attempted five of the first six shots and Sam Beesley put them on the board with a goal in the fifth minute.

The Redhawks settled in and Vicent tied it up in the thirteenth minute. La Roche drew a foul to set Vicent up with a free kick and he drilled it for his third goal of the season.

La Roche capitalized on the momentum shift and jumped ahead with a goal in the twenty-fifth minute. Vicent found Pedro Ansede for his ninth tally of the season and 2-1 advantage.

Medaille's Given Holy Gbode hit the post in the thirty-fourth minute but Beesley headed in a ball just a minute later to tie it up. The teams entered halftime deadlocked at 2-2.

The Mavericks attempted the first six shots after halftime but it was the Redhawks who struck first. Firas Abduljawad broke through the Medaille defense and found Vicent for his second goal of the game and a 3-2 lead.

La Roche dropped into a defensive strategy and kept the Mavericks out of the net until Kyle Ferguson tied it up in the seventy-ninth minute. Gorman made big save after big save down the stretch. Medaille had one last attempt to win it in regulation but they hit the post with eight seconds left and the game entered overtime.

Gorman was excellent in overtime and denied Medaille on three shots. Kyle Harriet provided the Redhawks' best chance before Anthony Marifioti netted the game winner.
