Sharkin’s Hat Trick Leads Second Half Charge

Pittsburgh, PA—The La Roche Men's Soccer team played a physical but well earned victory today (5-2) vs visting Bethany at the La Roche soccer field in the Baierl Athletic Complex. Freshmen Cameron Sharkins led the way for the Redhawks with a hat trick.

Bethany entered the game coming off a victory against La Roche rival Penn State Behrend earlier in the week. Their strong play led them to an early 2-1 lead in the first half. La Roche scored first when Sharkins started his career day on a beautiful feed by Ty Antonelli (3:56). However, Bethany responded three minutes later as Jose Lujan scored on an assist from Adam Franco (6:10). Lujan scored again (26:05) on an assist from Bernardo Vilchis to complete the first half.

A determined host soccer team came out in the second half. Sharkins flew up the middle of the field and scored (51:53) to start a dominate forty- five minutes. Pedro Ansede continued his strong season and nearly had a hat trick himself with two goals (60:51, 64:42). Sharkins, who assisted on Ansede's second goal, rounded out the scoring for La Roche on a pass from Faris Abduljawad (87:41).

The team looks to continue their skilled play as they near conference play. A mix of high energy, young talent, and strong leadership has the club playing well. The team will be on the road next week as they travel to Mount Union and Westminster.
