Redhawks Fall To Tomcats At Home

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche men's lacrosse returned home for the first time in a month after a five-game road trip, squaring off against Thiel. In the end, it was the Tomcats coming out victorious, 25-5.

Thiel opened the scoring at 10:44 of the first quarter and then added to the lead just a minute later, making it 2-0.

The Redhawks struck for their first goal of the game with 2:27 to go in the first, when Anthony Grebiner found the back of the net to make it 2-1.

The Tomcats would respond with two goals in the final 1:37 of the first to take a 4-1 lead into the second.

Thiel made it five unanswered goals, scoring the first three of the second quarter in the first 2:04 to up the edge to 7-1.

Grebiner found the back of the net to make it 7-2 at 11:20, assisted by Robert Johnson, then at 9:51, Jay Young Chung found Cody Budgick to make it 7-3.

The remainder of the first half, the Tomcats would find the back of the net three times to take a 10-3 lead into halftime.

Out of the break, La Roche was first on the board in the second half, when Johnson scored unassisted just 32 seconds in to make it 10-4.

Thiel did the remainder of the scoring in the third, netting four goals between 11:58 remaining and 9:33 left to make it 14-4 going into the fourth.

The Tomcats padded their lead in the fourth, scoring eight goals in the first 7:17 to build a 22-4 edge.

The final Redhawks goal came at 6:17 remaining, when Johnson netted his second of the contest.

Thiel closed the game with final three goals to complete the scoring.

La Roche ended the game with 19 shots and placed 12 on the cage.

Isaiah Hubbard led the team with six shots, while Grebiner's three shots on goal was the team high.

Goalie Connor Radecki faced 47 shots in the contest and came up with 22 saves.

La Roche stays home as it welcomes Earlham on Saturday, Mar. 23. Opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
