Men's Lacrosse Bested in Double Overtime by One

PITTSBURGH, PA - The men's lacrosse team of La Roche University took on the Medaille Mavericks in a game that went to two double overtime periods. After 68 minutes of an incredibly competitive lacrosse the Redhawks fell by one in a sudden death situation in the contest's second overtime.

Isaiah Hubbard led the team in goals, with eight out of the total 10 scored by the Redhawks. Hubbard was assisted once by Ahmir Shepard and once by Benny Mattingly.

Scoring one of the other two goals was Devin Wolford, who was assisted by Hubbard. The other goal scorer was Cody Budgick who scored unassisted.

Today's match up was an intense one, with the most crucial moment being when Colton Keane shot what would have been his fourth goal of the game, but head coach Ethan Thomson of the Redhawks requested a stick check on the goal scorer. Once the referees checked the stick it was determined the pocket was too deep, making the stick illegal, and reversing the goal Keane had just scored to give the Mavericks a two goal lead.

This momentum powered La Roche to fight hard for the final minute of the game. Hubbard got his hands on the ball once again and was able to score the tying goal to push for the first time in program history, an overtime period.

The Redhawks held the Mavericks scoreless in the first four minute overtime period, but on a bounce shot from Nick Carmichael slipped through Aiden Wagner and the La Roche defense in the second overtime period.

Leading on defense was John Aiello who scooped up 22 ground balls, and caused five turnovers. Aiello also won 21 of 26 faceoffs in today's contest.

The Redhawks are back in action against St Mary's (MD) this Saturday. They will be back at home April 30th against Penn College, and it'll be a Senior Day Celebration!
