Chris Sylvis Turns Away 20 Shots But Redhawks Fall to Alfred State

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The La Roche men's lacrosse team fell to Alfred State 9-4 in their home finale on Saturday at the Baierl Athletic Complex. Goalkeeper Chris Sylvis turned away 20 shots while Shawn McDanel was dominant in the faceoff circle.

The Redhawks held the edge in the first quarter. Devin Wolford gave La Roche a 1-0 lead just over five minutes into the game and McDanel followed with a tally at the 5:09 mark. Alfred State tied it at 2-2, but Mitchell Bachman found the back of the net late in the first for a 3-2 advantage heading into the second quarter.

Jake Podsiadly answered an Alfred State man-up goal with his own to help the Redhawks take a 4-3 lead into halftime.

The second half belonged to Alfred State as they outscored La Roche 6-0. Chris Sylvis kept the Redhawks within striking distance, but they were unable to find the back of the net.

McDanel finished with a goal, assist, 12 ground balls, and won 11 of 15 faceoffs. Podsiadly, Wolford, and Bachman all scored goals and Nick Sylvis dished out an assist.

Bachman, Jimmy Wodarek, and Janet Aland each forced two turnovers.
