Redhawks Come Up Short Against Muskingum

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The luck of the irish was not on the Redhawks side as they fell to Muskingum 18-6 on Saint Patrick's Day. 

La Roche nearly equaled Muskingum in the early minutes. Alex Riegel answered the Muskies opening goal with a strike from Brent Burkhouse at the 11:02 mark. Muskingum scored two straight but Riegel cut the deficit to two with 6:01 left in the first quarter.

Muskingum's Ryan Stacey took over in the second quarter as they built a 10-2 lead into halftime. Stacey scored six first half goals.

The Redhawks narrowed the gap in the third quarter. Devin Wolford opened the third with his fourth goal of the year. Shawn McDanel followed a Muskie score with his first career goal. Austen Lunt extended his goal streak to six games with a score in the third. McDanel netted his second of the game in the fourth quarter.

McDanel continues to tear it up during his freshman campaign. He won 21 of 25 faceoffs, scored twice and picked up a career-high 25 ground balls. McDanel currently leads the country in ground balls and ranks tenth in caused turnovers.

Riegel finished with 2 goals and Lunt a goal and an assist. Burkhouse had 3 helpers and Joel Chavez made 11 saves.

The Redhawks will travel to Westminster on Wednesday at 7pm. The all-time series is tied at 1-1.
