Lacrosse Battles Through Snowy Weather, Fall to St. Vincent in Season Opener

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The La Roche men's lacrosse team battled for all sixty minutes in their conference opener. They fought through the cold and snowy weather but fell to St. Vincent 23-6.

Brad LaBovick provided the Redhawks' first goal of the season. He buried a feed from Devin Wolford for a 3-1 game with 6:34 left in the first quarter. 

Austen Lunt had a strong game and tallied his first career goal in the second quarter. LaBovick added his second of the game just 53 seconds later.

LaBovick, Lunt and Brent Burkhouse registered second half goals.

LaBovick finished with 3 goals and an assist. Lunt scored twice and Wolford had two helpers.

Shawn McDaniel was excellent in the faceoff circle. He won 14 of 32 faceoffs and forced 7 turnovers. Gino DiPerna forced 6 turnovers and Alex Riegel had 5 ground balls.

Goalkeeper Charlie King made his first career start and made five stops. 

The Redhawks take on Chatham this Wednesday at 5:30pm. The game is at Highmark Stadium in Station Square.
