Hilbert Hangs On to Defeat La Roche 10-8

PITTSBURGH, PA – The La Roche men's lacrosse team (0-4) outshot Hilbert (1-0) and won the turnover battle but they were unable to win the battle on the scoreboard. The Redhawks fell to Hilbert 10-8 in a game that was not decided until the final minute of play.

Brad LaBovick opened the scoring five minutes in when he buried a feed from Dom Deltondo. Hilbert responded with a pair of goals but LaBovick found Vinnie DiMarco just twenty-five seconds later to tie it up at 2-2.

The visiting Hawks closed the first quarter with two goals and added two more in the second but Deltondo and Jeremy Zang answered with scores of their own to enter the half trailing by just two.

Hilbert held a three goal lead with just 6:45 to play but a LaBovick goal and a Hamer goal just two minutes later got the Redhawks within one. Sam Crum nearly found the equalizer inside of four minutes by his shot caught the post and Hilbert hung on.

LaBovick and Deltondo both had five point games with each registering 2 goals and 3 assists. Zang and DiMarco contributed a goal and assist apiece while Crum and Hamer also tallied goals.

The Redhawks backline was extremely effective limiting Hilbert to just 39 shots and forcing the Hawks into 25 turnovers. Hamer and McKee both caused three turnovers while Hamer and DiMarco picked up 5 ground balls. Goalkeeper Isaiah Wilson made 12 saves in the losing effort.

La Roche outshot Hilbert 49-39 and won the turnover battle 25-18. They converted 20 of 26 faceoffs and went 3 for 11 on the man-up.

The Redhawks will be in action on Monday when they travel to Neumann College. La Roche is 0-2 all-time against Neumann and they last played in 2012.
