Hermie Carmichael enters his 12th season as head coach of the men’s basketball program in 2023-24 season. Carmichael is a 1999 graduate of La Roche College and took over after serving as a Redhawks’ assistant for three seasons including one year as the associate head coach.

La Roche has had tremendous success under Carmichael. In 12 seasons as the Head Coach of the Redhawks, Carmichael has won AMCC Coach of the Year three times (2019, 2018, 2016), led the Redhawks to three straight AMCC Regular Season Championships (2018, 2019, 2020) & two AMCC Tournament Titles in 2018 and 2020 (clinching spots in the NCAA D-III Tournament those years). Hermie has coached 18 All-Conference Players (Seven First-Team, Eight Second-Team & Three Third-Team), two conference Player's of the Year (Zach Gould, 2019 | Tyler Fredercik, 2020), a Defensive Player of the Year (Mike Dixon, 2015) & two Newcomers of the Year (Arnes Borjgora, 2015) (Kadyn Hannah 2021). In his tenure, La Roche Men's Basketball owns an overall record of 157-104 (.602) and an AMCC record of 104-42 (.710). La Roche had it's first undefeated record in conference play in school history in 2018-19 when the team went 18-0 in AMCC action. 

Prior to taking the reigns as head coach, Carmichael was an assistant on the team for three seasons. The Redhawks won the 2010 AMCC Conference Championship and clinched a NCAA Tournament berth while going 57-24 in his tenure as an assistant coach under the late, great head coach Scott Lang.

Prior to La Roche, Carmichael served as Avonworth High Schools’ assistant coach and head junior varsity coach from 2007 to 2009. He was also an assistant La Roche College assistant coach during the 2000-2001 season.

Carmichael enjoyed a Hall of Fame career at La Roche College, captaining the Redhawks his senior season and finishing his career ranked among the program’s all-time leaders in points, assists, steals, and 3-pointers. He was inducted into the La Roche College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.
