Redhawks Pick Up Huge Win Over Hilbert 82-75

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche men's basketball received a huge contribution from the bench in Saturday afternoon's 82-75 victory over Hilbert to pick up its second consecutive AMCC victory.

The first 8:26 of play was a defensive slugfest, as the game stood at a stalemate, 10-10.

The Redhawks proceeded to take an 18-12 lead after an 8-2 run over the next 1:43 to make it the largest lead of the half.

Hilbert responded with a run of 11-2 that lasted 3:01 to take a 23-20 lead, but after La Roche tied the game yet again at 23-23, the teams traded offense scores down the remaining 4:46 stretch of first half play and the Hawks entered the locker rooms with a 33-31 lead.

Out of the break, it was much of the same, as both teams continued to trade the lead back and forth and did so over the 11:04 until the Redhawks used a 7-0 run when leading 57-56, to take a 64-56 lead with 7:30 remaining.

Hilbert would never come closer than five points over that final stretch of play as La Roche pulled through for the victory over the Hawks, who entered the day tied for first, early in AMCC play.

For the game, the Redhawks finished going 30-for-57 (52.6%) from the floor and 11-for-22 (50%) from three. From the foul line, La Roche hit on 11 of 16 attempts (68.8%).

On the other side, Hilbert finished 27-for-59 (45.8%) from the field, and 5-for-13 (38.5%) from deep, while going 16-for-20 (80%) from the foul line.

La Roche had five players in double figures, with Jerique Walker scoring 20 off the bench to lead the way, behind 4-for-5 shooting behind the arc.

Dominic Elliott chipped in 18 points with six rebounds, Bryce Epps added 14 of his own to go alongside a team high seven rebounds and four assists, Michael Brooks netted 11 points, five rebounds, six assists and a pair of steals, while Trevor Smulik scored 10 off the bench and corralled three rebounds.

The Redhawks hit the middle portion of their three-game home stand, hosting Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
