La Roche Splits with Penn State-Altoona; Darrell Earns Double-Double

ALTOONA, PA - This evening La Roche hit the road to take on the only opponent they have fallen to this season: Penn State-Altoona.

The game was intense. The fans in attendance witnessed 10 lead changes and 8 ties.

At halftime, the Redhawks were only up by 2 points (34-32), and both teams knew they still had a long 20 minutes ahead of them.

Devon Darrell who has been a leader for the team all year, proved once again that he earned the credit that he's given. Darrell netted 17 points, and also snagged 10 boards, for his first double-double of the season. The senior also shared the wealth with 5 assists.

Michael Brooks had a game for the books this evening. The sophomore shot 4-for-4 from deep, and 6-for-7 overall, and knocked down all his free throws; a total of 18 points. Brooks also had the second most rebounds with 6, as well as 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block.

Tying Brooks was Jordan Grayson who shot 50% from the floor today with 18 points, 3 blocks, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds.

In the second half, both teams were once again neck and neck. It seemed as if every run down the court had each team taking the lead by one point until finally, the Redhawks were able to pull ahead. With only a minute left on the clock, the Redhawks led by 11 points. Altoona had no choice but to foul in push a double bonus situation to try and rebound to get the ball back. La Roche stood up to the challenge and only missed 2 free throws out of 15, eliminating the Lions' chance at a victory.

Isaiah Thomas was one of those who went 100% from the foul line. Thomas earned a total of 12 points this evening including 4 rebounds.

With this victory, La Roche secured their spot as the No. 1 seed in AMCC Playoffs, meaning not only will they get a bye this Tuesday, but the whole tournament will be taking place on their home court. Get ready Redhawks fans, February 24-25 is going to be the battle for the chance to go to the big dance.
