Tyler Frederick Awarded USBWA National Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS, In. - The U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) awarded the Division III National Player of the Week honor to Junior Redhawk forward Tyler Frederick of the men's basketball team on Tuesday afternoon. The last Redhawk to receive the prestigious award was TiChina Mitchell of the women's basketball team, she did so in December of 2015. Tyler was also awarded the AMCC Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday.

Of Frederick, Head Coach Hermie Carmichael noted "Tyler is playing at an extremely high level right now.  Playing with tons of confidence and tons of energy.  As great as he is on the court, he's influenced our program off the court in so many ways as well. He's an even better person from a great family that has taught him the values of hard work. We have a lot of hard workers but anyone that comes and sees our practices walks out commenting on how a special talent like him can be such a leader by the way he works. The fruits of his labor are coming now. I tell him all the time he can be a D-III All American! Just blessed he chose La Roche"

The USBWA covers NCAA basketball across all-divisions and is revered as one of the most influential organizations in all of basketball. This weeks award spans from December 15th - January 5th due to the holiday break.

"Frederick, a 6-4 junior forward from Butler, Pa., produced three double-doubles as La Roche (6-5, 6-0) won all three games it played. On Wednesday, December 18, Frederick scored 23 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and added two assists and a steal in the Redhawks' 78-62 win over Mt. Aloysius. He scored a career-high 34 to go with 12 rebounds, three steals and a block in an 89-73 win over Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday, December 21. Then, on Saturday, January 4, Frederick had 30 points, 19 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in his team's 90-79 win against D'Youville. Over the three games, Frederick averaged 29 points, 14.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.0 blocks while shooting 66 percent (35-of-53) from the field, 70 percent (14-of-20) from the foul line and 30 percent (3-of-10) from three-point range. Currently eighth in NCAA Division III with 12.3 rebounds per game, Frederick was also named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Player of the Week." - USBWA
