Men’s Hoops Victorious over Medaille Mavericks

Men's basketball gets another victory against Medaille on Saturday with a final score of 81-75. With just two games left in the regular season, the Redhawks still undefeated, and the AMCC tournament right around the corner, La Roche is getting hopeful of a second straight AMCC title.

The Redhawks got off to a slow start tonight against the Mavericks. In the first ten minutes of the first half, they went basket for basket with Medaille and eventually allowed the Mavericks to take the lead. Zach Gould, Ryan Norkus, and Tyler Frederick, all contributed points to keep La Roche right behind Medaille.

The Redhawks began to turn the heat up with ten minutes left in the first half, getting within two points of the Mavericks thanks to Shawn Dunnings and his 3-point shot. Ray Quan Phifer tied things up 27-27 with his layup, but the Mavericks answered back.

Straight out of a timeout called by La Roche, Tyler Frederick tied the game at 33-33 with his layup. The Redhawks and the Mavericks battled it out but ultimately entered halftime with a tied score at 42-42.

The Hawks began to pull away in the second half with three made free throws from Gould to make the score 54-48. The Mavericks managed to stay within 8 points of the Redhawks for the majority of the rest of the second half, but the Hawks were able to keep them down. With five and a half minutes left in the game, two free throws from Phifer took the score to 73-61. The Mavericks fought back for the rest of the game, but it just wasn't enough to shake the nest.

La Roche has two away games left to finish out the regular season before hosting the AMCC tournament at home.
