La Roche men's basketball head coach Hermie Carmichael earned his 100th career victory on Monday afternoon at Hilbert. La Roche overcame a slow start to pick up the 93-79 road win over the Hawks.
The Redhawks improve to 15-2 on the season and a perfect 10-0 in conference.
Zach Gould finished with a game 23 points including 5 three-pointers. Rayquan Phifer was right behind with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Tyler Frederick finished a rebound shy of a double-double with 16 points and 9 boards.
Both teams shot well but it was on the glass where the Redhawks acceled.
Hilbert led by as many as eight points as late as 8:36 left in the first half. The Redhawks chipped away and grabbed a 41-40 lead just 5:37 later. Phifer sparked the run with a traditional three-point play. Gould and Kennedy Smith provided three-pointers.
Teams traded baskets and a jumper just before the half gave Hilbert a 47-46 lead at the break.
Hilbert continued to battle and they extended their lead to 66-61 at the 11:20 mark.
The Redhawks stepped up their effort on the defensive end to take control. La Roche grabbed a 76-75 lead with 6:11 left and closed the game on a 17-4 run.
Gould moves up to second in the AMCC in scoring average. Frederick is nearly averaging a double-double at 15.5 points an 9.9 rebounds per game.
Next up for the Redhawks is Pitt-Greensburg (5-12, 2-8). Cam Seigfried paces the Bobcats with 16.2 points per game.
