Men's Hoops Picked to Finish Second in AMCC Preseason Poll, Phifer Preseason Player of the Year

La Roche College, the defending AMCC Champions, were picked by coaches to finish second in the conference in 2018-19. 2-time All-Conference performer RayQuan Phifer was voted as AMCC Preseason Player of the Year. Zach Gould was picked as an AMCC Preseason Player to Watch.

AMCC Men's Basketball Preseason Poll

Senior G Ray Quan Phifer (Youngstown, OH/Struthers HS)…AMCC First team all-conference selection in 2018….Redhawks' second-leading scorer with 13.5 points per game (11th in AMCC)…Also added five rebounds per game and three assists per game.

Senior G Zach Gould (Fombell, PA, Riverside HS)…Averaged 9.5 points per game and was second in the AMCC in assistto-turnover ratio with 2.4 (80 assists to 33 turnovers)...Scored 26 points in the AMCC championship game while going 6- for-7 from the three-point line. 

The Redhawks typically have one of the most difficult non-conference schedules in the league and this year in no exception.

La Roche opens the season on November 16 at Marietta and will play either St. Vincent or Wesley on November 17 (at Marietta). They host Carnegie Mellon on December 3 and #20 John Carroll on December 22. La Roche travels to Hiram on December 22.

The Redhawks earned an invite to the prestigious Great Lakes Invitational on December 18-19 in Holland, MI. La Roche will take on Hope that Tuesday and Calvin the following night.

La Roche opens conference play on November 28 and will host rival Penn State Behrend. The Redhawks bested the Lions in the AMCC Championship Game last season.

Other marque games at the Kerr Fitness Center include 2018 AMCC Semifinal opponent Hilbert on December 15. 2017 AMCC Champion Medaille visits campus on senior day, February 9.
