La Roche Tops Mt. Aloysius, Win-Streak Reaches Double-Digits

CRESSON, PA -- The La Roche men's basketball team extended their win-streak to double digits after defeating Mt. Aloysius 60-51 on Wednesday night. The win-streak is their longest since 2011 when they won a school-record sixteen in a row. La Roche keeps pace atop the AMCC  standings at 15-5 and 12-1 in conference.

Mt. Aloysius' went on a hot streak early and built an 11-4 lead at the 15:59 mark. The Mounties hit 3 for 4 three-pointers and Julian Stover scored 8 points.

La Roche recovered and took the lead just 1:33 later. The Redhawks used the three ball to gain momentum and build a 9-0 run. Zach Gould hit a pair of three-pointers and Arnes Bajgora added another as the Redhawks nailed three straight from distance.

The Mounties kept the deficit to just one score through the eight minute mark. La Roche's defense stepped up and they held Mt. Aloysius without a field goal for over six minutes. The Redhawks began to assert themselves on the offensive glass and putbacks by Bajgora and Dion Etheridge extended the lead to double digits.

Stover hit a three to end the scoreless drought but La Roche carried a 30-21 lead into halftime. La Roche shot 43% to Mt. Aloysius' 23% and more than doubled them in field goals (13-6).

Darius Lawrence hit a three-pointer as the Redhawks stretched their lead to fifteen almost three minutes into the second half.

Mt. Aloysius traded threes for twos and were able to get back within striking distance. A Josiah Jones three-pointer closed the gap to five with 5:16 left to play.

Bajgora had the answer, putting back a missed three-pointer for an and-1 and eight point lead. The Mounties tried to extend the game at the foul line, but Bajgora and Gould hit their free throws to earn the victory.

The Redhawks held Mt. Aloysius to just 29% (16 of 55 FG) shooting while hitting 46% (25 of 55 FG) on the opposite end.

Bajgora was a force, finishing with 21 points (9 of 12 FG) and 12 rebounds. Gould had 12 points and Etheridge 11 rebounds.

The Redhawks will host Medaille on Saturday in the AMCC Game of the Week. Medaille is the lone AMCC team to beat La Roche, handing them a 92-78 loss on December 16.
