
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche baseball began AMCC play on Sunday afternoon, but were unable to get past Pitt-Greensburg in the twin bill, falling 12-0 and 12-6.
Game One: Pitt-Greensburg 12 La Roche 0 F/7
Pitt-Greensburg struck early and often in game one and opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs to take the 2-0 lead.
The Bobcats would proceed to add seven in the second inning, then another three in the third inning to close the scoring for game one.
Jamison Rhoades got the start, going just 1.2 innings, allowing seven runs (three earned), four hits, five walks and struck out one.
Izaak Ogrodowczyk threw 1.1 innings of relief, allowing five runs (four earned), seven hits, one walk and a strikeout, while Caden Maffitt threw the final three innings, allowing four hits and fanned two.
Offensively, La Roche ended game one with four hits, all of which were singles by four different players.
Game Two: Pitt-Greensburg 12 La Roche 6
The Redhawks opened the scoring in game two, when Tanner Schmitt hit a solo home run. The second batter of the game.
UPG would respond in the bottom of the first however, plating four runs to take a 4-1 lead.
Both teams plated a run in the second inning, with La Roche's coming by way of an RBI single from Dom Brncic.
The Redhawks tacked on another run in the top of the third thanks to a Damon Foster RBI single, then in the fifth inning, Josh Dreyer singled in a run to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Once again, the Bobcats struck for a big inning, in the bottom of the fifth, scored six runs to take an 11-4 lead.
La Roche plated its final two runs of the game in the top of the seventh on a Brandon Snyder RBI single and a Larry Bielawski sacrifice fly.
Jimmy Roe took the hill in game two, allowing six runs, six hits, two walks and struck out two across four innings.
Chris Tarquinio came in relief, lasting just 0.1 innings, allowing five runs, four hits, one walk and one strikeout, while Jared Hough closed out the game, throwing 3.2 innings, allowing one run, one hit, two walks and set down four.
Offensively, La Roche picked up 11 hits, with Schmitt's 3-for-3 leading the way. Dreyer, Snyder and Brncic all added two hits each.
The Redhawks return to action on Tuesday, Mar. 25 when they host Wooster for non-conference action at 3 p.m.
