Redhawks Drop Pair To Hawks

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche baseball welcomed Hilbert to the Baierl Athletic Complex for an AMCC doubleheader on Thursday. In game one, the Redhawks put runs on the board early, but a late Hawks rally stole the game, 5-3. In game two, Hilbert hit the scoreboard early and La Roche was unable to come from behind, falling 6-3.

GAME ONE: Hilbert 5 La Roche 3

La Roche wasted no time jumping ahead in game one as Larry Bielawski singled in Josh Dreyer to make it 1-0.

Dreyer pulled through in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single to score Christian Melendez as the score moved to 2-0.

Hilbert's first run scored in the top of the third on an RBI double, but the Redhawks countered in the bottom of the third with an RBI double by Brandon Snyder that scored Casey Jones to make it a 3-1 lead.

The Hawks would storm back in the top of the sixth inning, plating three runs with two outs to take their first lead at 4-3.

Hilbert would go on to add an insurance run in the top of the seventh to take a 5-3 lead that closed the scoring.

Cameron Mauk took the mound for La Roche and in the no decision lasted 5.1 innings, allowing three runs, seven hits, three walks and struck out two.

Casey Jones took the loss, tossing 1.2 innings of relief, allowing two runs and six hits.

Offensively, the Redhawks had seven hits in the game with Bielawski going 2-for-3, the only player with multiple hits in the game.

GAME TWO: Hilbert 6 La Roche 3

Hilbert wasted no time keeping the offense going in game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first to take an early lead.

Scoring halted for four innings, until the Hawks tacked on another run with an RBI single to make it 3-0.

La Roche gave itself a golden opportunity in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases with no outs, and with two outs, Dom Brncic drew an 0-2 hit by pitch to make it a 3-1 game.

Hilbert had an immediate response in the top of the seventh, plating three more runs to up the lead to 6-1.

The Redhawks brought a run across in the bottom of the eighth as Larry Bielawski scored on an error, a batter after his leadoff triple making it 6-2.

La Roche would add one final run in the bottom of the ninth off a Bielawski RBI fielder's choice to close the scoring.

Jamison Rhoades got the start in game two for La Roche and in six innings allowed six runs (five earned), 11 hits, one walk and struck out two.

Eli Thomas threw two innings of relief and allowed a hit and a walk, while Connor Greer tossed one inning, walking one and fanning two.

Offensively, the Redhawks had six hits, as Bielawski's 2-for-5 was the clubhouse leader.

La Roche now takes to the road as it meets Wells for an AMCC doubleheader. First pitch of game one is slated for 1 p.m.
