Baseball Splits with the Mounties

PITTSBURGH, PA - La Roche Baseball took on the Mounties of Mount Aloysius College in an AMCC Conference matchup.

GAME ONE

The opening game for the Redhawks kept all the fans on the edge of their seats. La Roche constructed a 4-run lead, and then at the hands of freshman hurler, Jamison Rhoades held the Mounties off to achieve a 6-5 victory.

Mt. Aloysius was the first on the board but that didn't stop the Redhawks from chipping away at their lead each inning.

The team put up one run in the second and third inning to take the lead from the Mounties. But their opponent knotted it up at 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning.

La Roche was prepared however, drove in 4 runs to officially take the lead, and keep it.

The big inning was led by a single from Zach Keib, who drove in the first run of the inning. The other 3 RBIs were earned by Nathan Stutz who socked a home run over the fence.

Rhoades took the victory on the mound. The righty battled all the mound for all 7 innings, only 5 runs on 11 hits. The hurler struck out 5 batters, walking only one.

Mason Brooks and Nathan Stutz both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Stutz led in RBIs with 4.

GAME TWO

The second round with the Mounties didn't go quite as the Redhawks would have planned. La Roche lost their 7-6 lead in the top of the eighth inning, and could not manage to battle back to secure their second win of the day.

Nate Darwin led the offensive firepower this evening. The senior singled in the first inning socked a home run in the fifth and doubled in the seventh. This is all for a total of 4 RBIs to lead the team.

Allen Minck started the game on the mound for the Redhawks. The hurler lasted just over three innings before relief pitching was brought in from the La Roche bullpen. Dylan Chan, Garrett LeMaster, and Cameron Mauk each saw a turn on the rubber this afternoon.

Darwin and Stutz each went 3 for 5 at-bats.
