Redhawks Split with Bobcats

Redhawks Split with Bobcats

PITTSBURGH, PA - Baseball of La Roche Unversity split this afternoon with the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats in a doubleheader matchup.

GAME ONE
The first contest was a battle of pitchers and each hurler made quick work of their batters.

Greensburg stole an early lead after an error in the field left them in a prime scoring position, and an early lead.

The Redhawks fought hard throughout the innings, assisting their pitcher in making haste to work through batters so La Roche could quickly return to their turn at bat.

In the seventh inning, the Redhawks saw a glimmer of hope with Shane Murphy homered a two-run homerun with 2 outs already up on the board. Unfortunately, it was too late to put the team fully back in the ball game.

Even with being credited with the loss, Jamison Rhoades had an excellent outing on the mound. The righty surrendered three runs on eight hits, striking out five. He also picked off one runner and recorded zero fielding errors.

Murphy led the La Roche offense, earning three hits in three at-bats.

GAME TWO

Game Two was a high-scoring affair. The Bobcats were on the board first, but your Redhawks made sure to answer them with matching runs every inning (except for one) until they reached the sixth inning.

The Redhawks were down 7-6 when they reach the bottom of the sixth, and they decided it was time to go put their heads down and go to work.

Tanner Kobal got the scoring party started, doubling on a 3-1 count, and driving in two runs to take the lead from the Bobcats. To add to the inning, Dylan Chan earned one RBI from a sacrifice fly, Mason Brooks shot out a single, driving in two more runs, and Nate Darwin doubled, scoring the final two runs of the inning. This inning would secure the win for the Redhawks.

Cameron Mauk took the win for La Roche on the mound. The hurler stuck it out for four and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and only three runs, striking out 1 before he was relieved. Allen Minck recorded the final two outs to earn the save for the team.

La Roche recorded one home run on the day off the bat of Christan Melendez, his first of the season.

The team recorded 12 hits in game two. Josh Dryer, Chan, Melendez, and Darwin all recorded multiple hits for the team. Darwin led the team in RBIs with 4. Thursday before returning home against Hilbert College on Saturday, April 15th at 1 PM.
