Baseball Earns Doubleheader Victory Over Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, PA - La Roche brought in their first wins of the season in a doubleheader matchup against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets. 

GAME ONE

Nathan Stutz showed timely hitting this afternoon, driving in four on three hits to lead the Redhawks past Waynesburg 8-5. Stutz drove in runs on a single in the first, a double in the third, and a home run in the fourth.

In the first inning, La Roche got their offense started when Stutz singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run.

In the bottom of the first inning, Waynesburg tied things up at one when Gavin Pratt singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

The Redhawks pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Stutz doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, Mason Brooks singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, and Zach Keib's sac fly scored one run.

The team tallied three runs in the fourth inning. Tanner Kobal and Stutz powered the big inning with RBIs.

Jamison Rhoades earned the victory on the hill for The Redhawks. The righty lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits and five runs while striking out three and walking one. 

Cameron Mauk and Shane Murphy entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Murphy recorded the last three outs to earn the save for La Roche University.

La Roche socked one home run on the day. Stutz went deep in the fourth inning. As a whole, the team racked up nine hits in the game. Kobal and Stutz all collected multiple hits. Stutz and Kobal each collected three hits to lead the team. 

GAME TWO

The Redhawks took the lead late in the game to earn an 11-10 victory over Waynesburg. 

The game was tied at nine with La Roche up to bat in the top of the sixth when Kyle Weitzel hit a solo homer.

La Roche opened up scoring in the second inning. Shane Murphy started the party by hitting a solo home run.

The Yellow Jackets knotted the game up at nine in the bottom of the fifth inning. An error scored one run for Waynesburg.

The Redhawks notched six runs in the fourth inning. The team's big inning was driven by doubles by Damon Foster and Nathan Stutz, a groundout by Mason Brooks, and an error on a ball put in play by Weitzel.

Murphy was credited with the win from the mound. Murphy threw one and one-third innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out three and walking one.

Garrett LeMaster started the game on the hill for the Redhawks. The righty allowed ten hits and nine runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one.

La Roche tallied three home runs on the day. Tanner Kobal went for the long ball in the second inning. Murphy put one out in the second inning. Weitzel smacked a homer in the sixth inning.

The team scattered nine hits in the game. Dylan Chan and Murphy each collected two hits to lead La Roche.
